Replace the bottom cap and use the toy. As you can see, the toy has many tiny holes for the crumbs to be trapped in the toy, instead of on your carpet. You can remove the crumbs at your convenience every few weeks or months. Once in a while you may want to remove the top and bottom caps and soak the toy in soapy water. Then rinse it and let it dry before you use it again. Honestly we have washed ours only a couple of times and that was just to make sure it was easy.
