The first time your cats play with the toy, they will need to learn that they can get food out of it. To teach them, let them see you putting food in the toy, shake it for the familliar rattle, and roll it on the floor so that your cat sees food coming out. For the first few times, you might want to set the hole on the large-ish size to encourage your cat to play. Once he knows his work will be rewarded, you can set the hole on a very small setting. We use various sized treats and set the toy on a very small setting. Hours later, we'll hear that Spike has found his toy again, which is good because lots of time it's no-where near where we left it! You might want to buy a couple because you may keep loosing them around the house.
