Grip the end caps lightly and twist them in opposite directions, changing the size of the resulting hole in the shaft of the toy to your desired size.

Simply put, you drop food down the red funnel at the end.  Then you twist the black cap to adjust the dispensing hole to any size.  Rattle the toy and place it on the floor, rolling it for your cat to show it dropping food.  You can use the toy for snacks or for meals.  Once the cat is comfortable with food coming out of the toy you can set it a lot smaller so that the food takes a lot longer to come out.  It is important for cats to eat slower than they commonly do.
